VA and CalVet are different programs

CalVet is a California state home loan program. Federal VA-backed loans are made by participating lenders. Compare qualification, loan structure, insurance requirements, costs and service directly. Team Windes does not administer CalVet.

Disabled Veterans’ Exemption

California offers a property-tax exemption for qualifying disabled veterans and certain surviving spouses on a principal residence. An exemption reduces taxable assessed value; it is not automatically a cash benefit or a waiver of every charge.

An important 2027 change

California’s disabled-veteran property-tax benefits are expanding for 2027. Ask your county assessor how the new law applies to your home, the effective date and filing requirements. Do not build your purchase budget around an unconfirmed exemption.

Local help belongs in the plan

A County Veterans Service Office can help you navigate benefit questions. Keep your assessor, insurance professional and mortgage team involved when estimating homeownership costs.
